
Metallica added two more magnificent covers to their arsenal the previous evening at the yearly Bridge School benefit, joining host Neil Young on Buffalo Springfield’s “Mr. Soul” and tackling the Clash’s “Clampdown” independent from anyone else.
You can watch fan-shot video of “Mr. Soul,” initially composed by Young for the 1967 collection Buffalo Springfield Again, and “Clampdown,” taken from the Clash’s 1979 magnum opus London Calling, underneath. “That is one of those songs that would not leave my head,” vocalist James Hetfield raved after the performance. “Once we started rehearsing that song, it was stuck in my head for days.”
