Drummer LARS ULRICH Says, METALLICA’s New Stage Production Is “F**king Crazy & Overwhelming”

The North American leg of METALLICA‘s “WorldWired” 2017 tour kicks off on May 10 in Baltimore, Maryland and gonna hit stadiums in 25 cities earlier than winding down in mid-August. Support on the quartet’s first North American trek since 2009 will come mainly from AVENGED SEVENFOLD and VOLBEAT, with GOJIRA taking up for the latter group for the last 6 concerts.

The band drummer Lars Ulrich told Rolling Stone about the trek: “Full stadium runs can sometimes be a little intimidating. There’s all these things to worry about like, ‘You should really attempt to play maybe solely on the weekend,’ and, ‘Where do you play on Tuesday?’ and a few of these practicalities can get a little bewildering. We just threw caution to the wind. Doing a stadium run seemed like the perfect thing on the back of how well this record has been received and all the good will that is out there in METALLICA‘s world right now.”

Ulrich additionally talked about what followers can expect the “WorldWired” stage production, saying: “You want to make the shows into events. We have a few things, clearly, that are tied into the record and a few different bits and tugs that is gonna make it fun.”

“We have a couple of things up our sleeves,” he continued. “I do not want to give it all away, however we are playing a few stadium shows in Mexico in about two weeks’ time, and we’re gonna be using what we did up in Minneapolis as the springboard. It is about size and spectacle, however there’s a little bit of a minimalist approach to it.”

Without going into details, Ulrich stated that the brand new METALLICA production will see the band “very exposed” and promised that the experience will consist of far more than “somebody plopping a stadium stage at the finish of a stadium.”

“It is massive and it is just fucking loopy and overwhelming and there are a few bells and whistles that are gonna make it unique,” he stated.

In the meantime, METALLICA bassist Robert Trujillo told The Pulse Of Radio the brand new tour makes it feel as if the band is proving itself all over again. “It feels like there is a new beginning, and in a way we’re challenged ’cause we’re winning people over with new music and new production, , new show,” he stated. “You know, we’re blessed and we understand that and we work hard to hopefully provide one of the best live performance experience we are able to.”

General ticket sales begin Friday (February 17) at 10:00 a.m. local time.

Each ticket bought will come with a copy of METALLICA‘s new album, “Hardwired… To Self-Destruct”, available as a physical CD or a digital download. Various VIP packages are up for sale as well.

METALLICA has also announced the formation of its All Within My Hands Foundation, which will raise funds by ticket sales to support nationwide, local and Bay Area charities selected by the band members, while continuing to donate to music education programs and local food banks.
